Privacy Policy

Last updated September 30, 2026

This policy explains what Oye Mila collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers the Oye Mila device, the service behind it, and oyemila.com. Our full terms are at oyemila.com/terms.html.

Oye Mila is operated by Yazmyne Ortega, Lancaster, California. You can reach us any time at hola@oyemila.com.

Text messages and your mobile number

We do not sell your personal information. No mobile information will be sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party or affiliate for marketing purposes.

Program name

Oye Mila.

What we send

A daily summary about the person using Mila, plus alerts in the five situations described in our terms: no response to a scheduled reminder by 2 p.m., a health concern raised in conversation, a possible scam or fraud raised in conversation, the user asking to speak with their family, and the device being offline for about two hours.

How you opt in

You enter your own mobile number at oyemila.com when you buy a device or during setup, and you choose to receive these messages. We only text the numbers given to us by the purchaser and the people they designate. We do not buy, rent, or otherwise obtain phone numbers from anyone else.

How often

One summary per day, plus additional alerts when one of the five conditions applies. Message frequency varies.

Cost

Message and data rates may apply. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

How to stop

Reply STOP to any message to stop receiving them. Reply HELP for help, or email hola@oyemila.com. You can also ask us to remove your number at any time and we will.

What we collect

What you give us. Your name, email address, phone number, shipping address, the first name of the person who will use Mila, and the reminder schedule you set.

Speech. The device listens locally for its wake word. Audio is not sent anywhere until a wake phrase or the button on the device starts a conversation. Once a conversation starts, audio is processed in real time to understand what was said, then discarded. We do not store recordings. We do keep the text of what was said, for the period described below.

Activity. Which reminders were answered and how, how often Mila was used, whether the device is powered on, and records of any alerts we sent.

Payment. Card payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

The device has no camera. There is no camera hardware in it.

How we use it

To run the reminders, hold conversation, remember ordinary details across days, send the daily summary, and send the five alerts described above. We use it to operate and improve the service.

We do not sell it, and we do not use it for advertising.

Who we share it with

Summaries and alerts go to the family contacts the household has designated, and nobody else.

We use outside providers to run the service: speech recognition, language models, voice synthesis, text messaging, cellular connectivity, payment processing, and hosting. They process data on our behalf, under their own terms, in order to deliver the service. They are not permitted to use it for their own marketing.

We will disclose information if the law requires it, or if we believe someone is in immediate danger.

How long we keep it

When you cancel, tell us and we will delete the account data we are not required to keep.

What Mila remembers

So that conversations don't start over every morning, Mila may remember ordinary details across days: names and relationships, pets, favorite foods and shows, interests, and things talked about before.

Mila is not designed to retain passwords, PINs, Social Security numbers, banking or card information, account numbers, security codes, or government and insurance identification numbers as conversational memory.

Consent

Buying Mila for someone is not the same as that person agreeing to use her. When the device is first plugged in, Mila introduces herself, explains who set her up, what she does, that she remembers things across days, and that a summary goes to family each night. Then she asks the person directly whether they would like her company. If they say no, tell us and we will deactivate the device the same day and refund the device fee.

If the person asks Mila what gets shared with their family, she tells them the truth.

Your choices

California residents have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, to delete, and to opt out of sale. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, but the other rights apply and you can exercise them by emailing us.

Children

Oye Mila is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access is limited to what is needed to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, and we won't pretend otherwise, but we will tell you promptly if something happens that affects you.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will email you before it takes effect.
